TOOTING MARKET*
TOOTING MARKET
Year 6 from Furzedown primary school have been doing an extremely fun project on Tooting Market. Its a very friendly place and has everything there. Its a multi-cultural place. There are foods from almost all over the world the world, traditional clothes from a variety of different countries.
You can buy a huge amount of things you want and its not very expensive at all. the people and even customers are all very kind and friendly. Some people do there everyday shopping there!
So, year 6 have been doing a film project on this market. We've been writing poems, interviewing people who have been working there for a long and short period of time and we have even got to know quite a few of the shop keepers there!
When I first went to the market to meet the people there i personally and probably everyone else i think we all felt loved and like were one big family. Everyone knows everyone and everyone are always there for each other. in this picture you can see all the different cultures and how everyone is loving and cares about each other.

TOOTING MARKET'S LOVE
You can always go and expect the same. You can always go and love the company. The market will be loving you till the end. And i can almost guarantee you will make a friend.
Year 6 went to the market and loved it. They met knew people and it will always be in there memory.
We all had forgotten that you don't have to be the smartest person to work there and with that in mind we will always want to make friends with the locals.
The market gave us an enjoyable time and you could tell what a good time everyone else was having and that they knew that they would want to come back again and fill the needed friends that had been missing for to long.
We went to tooting market and learnt knew things it was fun and everyone was so nice. When we went to talk to shop holders they were kind and we wanted to talk more.
We went back to the market a couple of weeks later to do a film project. Nearly everyone that we asked wanted to be in are project we had a great time and everyone was so nice and we got some very good stories. We found out a lot of the history. It would be a real shame if one day it was there and the next day it wasn't people have been going and serving for many years and they are enjoying every single bit of it.
When we asked what the shoppers saw in the market instead of the supermarket they all said it was because of the atmosphere and that the shop owners were friendly and were good company.

Year 6 In The Tooting Markets
Tooting Markets

Year 6 from Furzedown Primary School went to the markets to interview the shop-holders and learn about the history. The Tooting Markets are a very friendly and warm-hearted community. Tooting Market was built in 1930.
We went to Tooting Market and met many nice shop-holders from the fish shop, the cobblers, the time specialists, and many, many more. We interviewed over 20 people and had at least 10 hours of interesting filming. It was extremely fun to learn how to use the cameras, lights and sound equipment. When using the equipment we had some mishaps but hopefully the film will turn out to be really good.
Some of the shops are from Jamaica, Ghana, Nigeria and some even from China! It is truly an icon of Tooting and it shows how multi-cultural and multi-national Tooting really is.
We also went to Broadway Market. It was built in 1936, 6 years after Tooting Market was built and has 90 stalls, more than Tooting Market. It has Cafes and restaurants.
We are waiting for the rough edit of our documentary to come in and I can't wait to see it. Hopefully it will be amazing!!!!!!
Thank You!

Tooting Market
Tooting Market
Year 6,from Furzedown, have been making a film at Tooting Market. We visited loads of different stalls. They told us amazing stories like the parrot who nearly got hit by a bus. That story was told to us by pet shop owner.
At school we have been writing poems about Tooting Market. This verse is written by Nancy Sparrowhawk about Tooting Market.
'There is a friction of friendliness that joins the market together
There is a juice bar to relax
A stylish stall to buy jewelry
So many different stalls and shops.'
The market is also very friendly. People with different cultures can talk to each other and the stall owners are really friendly as well while in a supermarket don't that.
The shops are small but incredible. With all the history of the stalls and of owners it's amazing to think what it has been through.

Year 6 in Tooting Market
Tooting Market is a great place full of people from different cultures.Inside you will find lots of interesting fruit and vegetables from all over the world, which you won't find in supermarkets such as Tesco or Asda.
The stall holders there are very nice and are most of the time always happy to give you a interview, because of them we have got lots of excellent interviews and have learnt lots about Tooting Market.
We have seen lots of stalls such as...
- a smoothie stall
- a pet shop
- a comic stall
- and a butchers
I am delighted to work and meet such nice and warmhearted people.
